Today’s we will be talking about the recent developments regarding the Afghanistan peace process. What has been going on in the recent days and what we will think is going to be the future of the Afghanistan peace process. Off course, this discussion continues in light of what has been happening in the past few days.  Which includes a very important peace plan that has been put forward by the United State of America states towards jump-starting the Afghanistan peace process.

Media News Afghanistan peace process

Which some media outlets have been calling a moonshot peace plan and others especially politicians and including the president Afghanistan have been talking about in terms of a plan. That is amounts to dictation by the United States and that, which is not going to be acceptable by the Afghanistan political parties. It remains to be seen how this is going to go well with the Taliban and the afghan officials and what exactly are the other parties going to be doing about that.

New Development in Afghanistan peace process

Now other developments have been that Pakistan has been invited by Russia to a meeting of extended trekker and afghan peace being held on March 18 in Moscow. The coming expanded trilateral consultations also frustrated by a stalled peace process and escalating violence, the USA has presented an eight-page draft peace agreement to Afghanistan’s warring sites.

United State of America U.S.A secretary Anthonye Blinke has written to the President of Afghanistan Mr. Ashraf Ghani telling ways to fast-track Afghanistan’s stalled peace method in Afghanistan and reach a lasting ceasefire.  Anthony blinken United State of America U.S.A secretary reposed convening a United Nations facilitated conference with foreign ministers of member of UN country merbers and onwards from Russia country, China country, Islamic republic of Pakistan, Country Iran, India(Hindustan) conntry and the United States of America to discuss a unified approach to supporting peace in Afghanistan. 

USA (United State of America) Ask Turkey

Furthermore, the USA will ask turkey to host a senior level meeting of both sides in the coming weeks to finalize a peace agreement. Washington has not ruled out any option regarding Afghanistan including the full withdrawal of its forces by the first of many United States special onward for afghan reconciliation.

In addition, we have also been joined on telephone line by deputy director Asia program Michael Kirkland.

Start Talk regarding Views on News Afghanistan peace process

We will be talking to all of our guests regarding these developments. I will be starting with our guests in the studio first of all Nasir Mehmood talking to you regarding.

 What has been going on in the past we'll move on towards how we see Russia’s involvement in this or Pakistan’s role?

Um in furthering the Afghan peace process in the future but considering the fact that the major development that we have seen in the past few days. It is the fact that this peace process this peace plan has come forward from the United States and many are talking about this peace plan as highly ambitious or something.

Which depicts the USA urgency in terms of making sure that this peace process does goes it does go towards something more than the stalled position that. It has been since September perhaps um how do you see this entire proposal do you think it is far-fetched or do you think it's more like a moonshot a miracle program or a plan by the us and that's not very grounded in what actually the parties in Afghanistan might want to adhere to this well naturally.

Now the USA is exactly in the same position, which the USA was in a one island and they had to leave Afghanistan in shambles you know yeah it was a problem. We even to certain extents suffer, as you know we had this uh explosion here in the ocd camp, which it was directly linked with that because they created you know an environment. Because they wanted an exit for the soviet so the soviet which had come with all that you know their troops tanks aircraft and all that stuff.

Finally they had to Afghanistan is a country if you go back in the history nobody has ever captured it even if it has been captured nobody haven't been able nobody has ever ruled them so. All those things if you look into this thing when they came we i know because I was directly uh involved into this I was at that time heading the high side setup of the now February okay here at that time and I was directly you know involved in all that so I know what was going on. Now they had to leave the country in a very bad shape uh with casualties’ variety you know there are views about it to more than 30 000 killed more than 100 000 wounded and all that stuff.

Now the Americans you know if they are trying to push their peace this plan. Whatever it is I mean they must realize that the people of Afghanistan are the same. whether it was for the Russian or whether it was prior to that and all that stuff so they exactly know it is the American who has created this scenario now that they can't stay there and the things will get worse to buy this thing if they stay. You know for a longer period right and the USA has indicated that the plan of actually we are trying to troops by the first of May is still there but even that uh leaves us to question whether or not. actually going to be leaving something tangible behind I mean this just seems like a very rushed plan at the moment and then if they're do they according to the peace agreement that they've had with the Taliban.  If they do actually uh pull out their troops by the first of may they're again leaving Afghanistan in chambers and there's still no guarantee of whether or not um the intra-African negotiations that we've been wanting for such a long time are actually going to result in something. 

Peaceful Settlement Afghanistan

Which is a peaceful settlement for the Afghanistan is because it really it is about the people of Afghanistan. That we require peace more than anything else does   uh Mr Nazar your take on that well I look at this development rather. Uh positively okay in a couple of senses uh why because trump used to do it all alone his policy was not to involve anyone. He did not even discuss it with Ashraf Ghani. When he concluded that agreement in February last year right and it was kind of a dictation that trump was giving to Ashraf Ghani and without involving, is this less of a dictation no not yet. Why let me tell you what the differences are what my take on this is why it is different because probably for. The first time America has tried to broaden the negotiation table previously under trump it was all alone. Now in the letter that uh blinking has written to Ashraf Ghani it very clearly chalks out at least two steps.

One involving other countries which up till now. America was reluctant and the United Nations which has also been on the periphery so involving. Russia, China even Iran, which is an enemy you know they are not on good terms right. But this look at it as positively because if America agrees to sit with Iran and with Russia and even with China so that's why I  think that America is genuinely in they are in need of and they are also willing to have a negotiated settlement. Somehow, so that is why I say it is a positive step number one and

Two involvement of uh you and also as you pointed out so if because you know somehow after 40 years we need to find a solution to it who will find a solution Taliban want to occupy the whole of Afghanistan. Ashraf Ghani wants to continue ruling both options are improbable because the war has been going on for long and as Michael mentioned that, the situation is almost the same as it was in uh when Russia left but slightly I remind that it was more like 1991.

Afghanistan vs Soviet Union 1981 to 1991

When Russia had left three years back in 1989 and 1991 when the Soviet Union collapsed after that one year. Uh Najibullah tried to negotiate a deal to involve these people uh the Mujahideen and all but at that time which I did not were adamant that we will occupy Kabul, they did occupy, and what happened as a result for 10 years. There was complete chaos right civil war they could not agree so that is why you know it is not possible for Taliban to occupy.

It is not possible for Ashraf Ghani to continue so there has to be a solution and the only possible solution is you involve all the parties you sit and probably America is going to right. Now they are they are willing to take a back seat and they are going to hand over and say that now you find a solution and tell us how to get rid of the problem right you're. Right that at the end of the day the only solution is a political solution and I believe all the parties have finally realized.

That and have come to the same conclusion but really the question is how far long?  Are we going to delay coming to that end and how much damage are we going to suffer before we actually do end up in a political solution. Um because even if there is all sorts of destruction at the end there is political, solution but we are trying to make sure that we avoided business already been so long. That this has been going on and then even though this draft uh that the U.S has presented is eight page long.

Don’t you think that the real issues that are that were still on the negotiating table?

 That were still um issues concerning both the Afghanistan uh the government and the officials in Afghanistan and the Taliban are still not really addressed as properly as it should have been is this.  Really, a step forward in that sense because again, it is up to them to agree to these terms or not right, this is just a proposal.

What will be the role of Taliban right okay and minus Taliban?

 I think there will never ever be peace in Afghanistan and I do not think that is even possible. Now to mine there is no question right we have seen it the only people that to whatever degree can influence the Taliban are we the Pakistan they would listen to us but again not in the manner that the Iran used to listen   us.  Now the things have changed now that since the things have changed now we have to look into that. Uh because the political position has changed, there will be no solution and you know imagine the person who is negotiating uh on behalf of America or who is the leading man spokesperson whatever you call it but the Iran don't consider him as a one you know few American settler and all that so and they exactly. They do not they do not like to talk to even him well i happen to have direct access and many meetings with the top hierarchy the Taliban commanders in the past okay.

Now there are no more commanders of course there are different uh setups right so all these things have to be taken and uh you know concentration we in Pakistan because now we you know once this thing starts this negotiation right there will be a pressure there will be a pressure from the American side absolutely okay. Because we are, the only people we are the only people that they would do whatever we have played a vital role.
